Sonic the Hedgehog and Spinning Gold Ring Cursor

Sonic giving a thumbs-up, drawn as a chibi sticker with bold outlines. The hover pointer is a gold ring. Blue and gold are an easy pair to see on white pages, and this is the natural starting point for the set.

Sonic the Hedgehog and the ring he never keeps

Sonic has been Sega's mascot since 1991: a blue hedgehog in red shoes who runs faster than the screen can scroll. Rings are his safety net. Hold one and a hit only scatters them; hold none and the run is over. So the gold ring is the item every player associates with him, and it is the hover image here. The cursor shows him giving a thumbs-up, as a chibi sticker with bold outlines.

Blue on white, gold on hover

Blue and gold are far apart in colour, so you notice the swap over a link without looking for it. Bold outlines help the spikes survive at small sizes, though the thumbs-up needs medium to be clear. Blue shows well on white pages; on dark ones add a step. A ring is a circle with a hole, so it marks links loosely. Shadow the Hedgehog is the darker counterpart, arms crossed, with a Chaos Emerald.
